Vemdalen Skiing Holidays
Vemdalen, in the Ostersund region in Sweden, is one of the countrys’ longest established ski resorts, and offers an excellent family destination. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, lakes and pine-clad countryside, Vemdalen offers gentle wide pistes and relatively uncrowded slopes, with plenty of beginner terrain and one of the best ski schools in the country.

Skiing in Vemdalen – The Mountains
Located at an altitude of 618m, Vemdelen offers skiing up to 938m, both above and below the tree-line. The resort is fairly snow-sure, with half of the slopes covered by snow-making facilities. Vemdalen is linked to neighbouring Bjornrike and Klosjo, all of which are covered on the same lift pass, but with 6 blue runs, 4 red and 3 black within the resort itself, served by 8 lifts, the terrain is fairly limited, but varied. That said, Vemdalen has hosted the World Cup championships twice and is a popular venue for national competitions, and the resort is home to a certain amount of more challenging terrain, including some fast blacks and tough mogul trails.

The majority of the skiing, though, is on wide and gentle pistes, perfect for families and beginners, and the ski school is one of the most highly regarded in Sweden, offering expert tuition from fluent instructors. Intermediates have a few fast cruisers to enjoy, with the longest run in Vemdalen spanning just over 2km.Off-piste is very popular, and the ski school offers off-piste courses and group excursions. Night-skiing is available in Vemdalen a few times a week, and there are 180km of cross-country trails spread over the linked areas. Snowboarders have varied terrain to explore and a snow park.

Skiing in Vemdalen – The Après-ski
Vemdalen offers a relaxed, low-key après-ski scene, catering to families with child-friendly accommodation and facilities. Facilities in the resort include Swedish restaurants offering traditional fare, some bars with live music and entertainment, and accommodation close to the lifts and the centre of the resort. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the standard of customer service is high. Whilst skiing in Vemdalen, other activities to enjoy include snow-mobiling, dog-sledding, ice-climbing and ice-fishing.
