Skiing in Obergurgl
Obergurgl offers a superb choice of above tree line skiing, with a great snow record, in the tranquil ski-in/ski-out Alpine setting of Austrias' highest village. Set in classic Tyrolean countryside, which is dominated by a series of great peaks and glaciers, the views from Obergurgl of both the Otztel Alps and the Italian Dolomites are stunning. At a height of almost 2000m, Obergurgls' snowfall is pretty much guaranteed and together with its' extremely long season spanning from November to May, and snowmaking facilities on 90% of the resorts' slopes, visitors return year after year for the fantastic snow conditions.

Skiing in Obergurgl - The slopes
The resort is made up of a series of small villages, and the 2 major ski resorts - Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are connected by a relatively new gondola - the Gurgl Top Express. Beginners will want to stay on and around the slopes of Obergurgl village; while more advanced skiers will head for the
higher, steeper slopes of Hochgurgl, whose highest peak hits 3,000m. With a combined 110km of pistes served by 24 lifts, there's plenty to suit everybody. Beginners should start at the Gaisberg or Mahdstuhl lifts and try the wide open runs, and many of the 14 blue runs in this resort offer a
chance to ski down directly into the village. The majority of runs, 35 in total, offer fantastic choice for intermediates. Enjoy the views of the scenic glaciers as the gondola ascends the 2 mile stretch up to Hochgurgl, at 2150m, and then ski the Schermerspitze, with its steep slopes before exploring the varied trails and terrains on the Festkogl. The most expert of skiers will want to head straight for the Hohe Mut (translation - High Courage!), an exhilarating black mogul run before embarking on the wealth of off-piste opportunities that Obergurgl has to offer. Visitors to Obergurgl will find that lift lines are almost non-existent, due to the speed of the 8 person gondola and the fact that Obergurgl is not an easy place for locals to get to for the weekend, so it tends not to get too crowded.
Skiing in Obergurgl - The apres-ski
Obergurgl is a typical traditional Austrian family resort. The village comes alive for a few hours when the lifts close, with lively apres-ski fun to be found both slope side at the Nederhutte, a real favourite, and in the town, with both Josl Keller and the Krump'n Stadl being very popular. After that most visitors prefer to go back to their hotels for hearty Alpine fare, or stroll around the village (which at night is car-free) finding a spot for dinner or a drink. Don't miss the local specialties, especially the fondue or raclette.
